Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you need to know about sending faxes with FaxSmile.

Getting Started

Do I need to create an account?

No. FaxSmile works without any sign-up. Your session is anonymous and stored only in your browser. You can send a fax in under two minutes without entering a username or password.

What file formats can I fax?

PDF and TIFF files are supported. Max file size is 10 MB. If your document is in another format (Word, Excel, an image), you can print it to PDF first using "File → Print → Save as PDF" on any computer.

Which countries can I send to?

FaxSmile currently supports US fax numbers only. International support is planned for a future release.

Pricing & Payment

How much does it cost?

A fax costs $0.99 for up to 3 pages, plus $0.20 for each additional page. There are no monthly fees, subscriptions, or hidden charges.

When does my card get charged?

Your card is authorized (a hold is placed) when you submit the fax. The charge is only captured after we receive confirmation that the fax was delivered. If delivery fails, the hold is released and you pay nothing.

What happens if the fax fails?

FaxSmile will retry delivery automatically. If all attempts fail, the payment authorization is voided. You will not be charged for a fax that was not delivered.

What payment methods are accepted?

Visa, Mastercard, American Express, and other major credit/debit cards. Amazon Pay is also supported. Payments are processed by Stripe.

Can I get a receipt?

Stripe sends a payment receipt to the email address you provide at checkout. Your fax history (including cost and status) is also visible on the Send page for as long as your browser session is active.

Delivery

How long does fax delivery take?

Most faxes are delivered within 30 seconds to 3 minutes. Delivery time depends on the recipient's fax machine being available, the quality of their phone line, and how many pages you send—pages transmit one after another, so a longer fax takes more time.

How do I know the fax was received?

The Send page shows live status updates: first a short submitting step (spinner only), then Queued → Sending → Delivered (or Failed). Refresh the page if you navigated away — your session history is still there.

Can I cancel a fax after sending?

You can cancel from the status banner while the fax is not yet delivered — including during the submitting step, while queued, or while sending. Once delivered, it cannot be recalled.

Why did my fax fail?

Common reasons include: the recipient's fax machine is off or busy, the number is not a valid fax line, or a temporary line quality issue. Check the number and try again. You will not be charged for a failed fax.

Privacy & Security

Is my document stored after sending?

Your document is uploaded to our private, encrypted storage so it can be transmitted to the recipient. Once the fax is delivered or fails, the file is automatically and permanently deleted from our servers. Only fax metadata (number, page count, status, cost) is kept for your session history.

Is my payment information secure?

Yes. Payments are handled entirely by Stripe. FaxSmile never sees or stores your card number. Stripe is PCI-DSS Level 1 certified.

Who can see my fax history?

Fax history is tied to your anonymous browser session. No one else can see your history unless they have access to your browser.
